Cybersecurity Certificates
Mount Saint Mary College offers a new Cybersecurity Certificate program with three track options: Cybersecurity, Ethical Hacking, and Digital Forensics.
Cybersecurity – Certificate
The Certificate in cybersecurity is designed to prepare degree and non-degree seeking students with the necessary knowledge and skills to seek entry level jobs in Cybersecurity. The 18-credit Certificate provides the theoretical background and hands-on experience to understand the principles of cybersecurity, cybersecurity risk and management, cryptography, and network security. Additionally, students learn necessary programming skills using a modern programming language. Upon successful completion, students will be able to apply for entry level cybersecurity positions, as well as be prepared to sit for the Computing Technology Industry Association’s (CompTIA) Security+ examination. (This certificate program is intended for both MSMC students and non-MSMC students.)
Requirements – 18 credits comprised of
Course # | Course Name | Credits |
CYB 1200 | Foundations of Cybersecurity | 3 |
CSC 2550/CIT 2550 | Introduction to Programming | 3 |
MTH 2250 | Introduction to Cryptology | 3 |
CIT 2300 | Networking | 3 |
CIT 4540/CIT 4540 | Operating System Security | 3 |
CIT 4610 | Network Security | 3 |
Digital Forensics – Certificate
The Certificate in Digital Forensics is designed to prepare degree and non-degree seeking students with necessary skills in Digital Forensics. This 18-credit Certificate will take students through foundational cybersecurity concepts, laws, and policies, as well as the workings of cybercrimes, threat and defense mechanisms of modern operating systems, ethical hacking processes and underlying concepts of computer forensic investigations including preservation, extraction, analysis and investigation of digital evidence from individual computers, network components and servers, and mobile devices. Additionally, students will learn necessary programming skills using modern programming languages. Upon successful completion, students will be able to work as digital forensics experts, security analysts, penetration testers or ethical hackers for private or government organizations.
